Professional Scrum Master II™

Professional Scrum Master II logo

Professional Scrum Master II (PSM II) course is a 2-day advanced Scrum Master class designed to support Scrum Masters in their professional development. The PSM II class is intended for Scrum Masters with at least one year of experience who are looking to grow their knowledge and abilities as a Scrum Master. This course is one step in that journey. The course also includes a free attempt at the globally recognized Professional Scrum Master II (PSM II) certification exam

Unlike the Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course which focuses on how to use Scrum, the Scrum framework and the role of the Scrum Master, PSM II is an advanced course helping students to understand the stances that characterize an effective Scrum Master and servant-leader while diving deep into how they serve the Scrum Team, Product Owner and organization. The class then teaches students about related practices and skills to enable them to have the right types of conversations and how to apply them to become better Scrum Masters.

What you will learn

Over the 2 days, students will learn about areas critical to growing as a successful Scrum Master such as how the principles and values of Scrum help guide Scrum Masters in the decisions they make and how the Scrum Master can help change the environment of Scrum Teams, creating an environment for agility to thrive. The Scrum Master role is complex and often, a Scrum Master must be able to apply different stances in order to be effective, such as:

  • The Scrum Master as a Teacher
  • The Scrum Master as a Coach & Mentor
  • The Scrum Master as a Facilitator
  • The Scrum Master as a Change Agent

As a Scrum Master, being able to identify, and effectively apply, which stance would benefit your team the most depending on the situation or circumstance could prove to be the key to the success of your team.

As a Scrum Master, part of your role is to help management and other stakeholders across your organization to understand the benefits of Scrum and Agile. Therefore, it is imperative that you have the information and background that is needed to gain credibility in order to be an effective change agent. Throughout the class, your PST will provide stories, exercises, facilitation techniques (such as “Liberating Structures”), resources and more.

There will also be time in class for the Professional Scrum Trainer (PST) to provide coaching on challenges that you and your classmates may be experiencing today or may in the future.

Who should attend

The Professional Scrum Master II course is an advanced course specifically designed for experienced Scrum Masters who have a thorough understanding of the Scrum framework. It is particularly beneficial for those people with at least one year of Scrum Master experience.

Scaled Professional Scrum™

Scaled Professional Scrum™ logo

Scaled Professional Scrum (SPS) with Nexus is a 2-day course designed for anyone involved in building products across multiple teams to learn how they can scale product delivery with Scrum.  In this workshop, students use a hands-on case study to learn about the Nexus framework and over 50 practices to reduce dependencies at scale.

“I’ve spent the last two years developing a two-day workshop about scaling Scrum from one to many teams on large projects. I worked with people who have actually constructed the frameworks and practices that made large projects and product initiatives work. Our smallest project experience was 3 teams, average 25 teams, and largest was 80 teams.

We have developed a workshop in which participants learn how to scale a project based on Scrum teams. This is not a philosophical methodology, like SAFe, but a nuts and bolts set of detailed tools and practices for your use. These practices are appended to the basic Scrum framework to create a process you can use to scale your next or current project.

We abstracted a framework for this scaling which we named Nexus. A Nexus is 3-9 Scrum teams that are working on a single Product Backlog to build an integrated increment that meets a goal. A Nexus+ is more than one Nexus interoperating to build a large product, usually integrated through a product family framework, api, or similar integrating technology.

We developed or reformulated 30+ practices, which cause the Nexus to operate predictably. During the workshop, you work in teams to apply the practices on a case study. Come to this workshop if you have a project or initiative that you need to successfully scale, or one that is in trouble. We will help you through teaching, exercises, and coaching.

The audience is systems engineers, development managers, lead developers … the people who will make this happen and have strong familiarity with modern development and Scrum. And for those that will manage the project and need to know when to step on the throttle, and when to brake.

Those of you who have invested and attempted commercial scaling methodologies such as SAFe will find this aimed at the organizing and doing of scaled development. It may well fill a gap that you have noticed when you get to setting up and running your projects, programs and releases.”
