What Students Are Saying

Professional Scrum Master II™

Professional Scrum Master II

Professional Scrum Master II (PSM II) course is a 2-day advanced Scrum Master class designed to support Scrum Masters in their professional development. The PSM II class is intended for Scrum Masters with at least one year of experience who are looking to grow their knowledge and abilities as a Scrum Master. This course is one step in that journey. The course also includes a free attempt at the globally recognized Professional Scrum Master II (PSM II) certification exam

Unlike the Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course which focuses on how to use Scrum, the Scrum framework and the role of the Scrum Master, PSM II is an advanced course helping students to understand the stances that characterize an effective Scrum Master and servant-leader while diving deep into how they serve the Scrum Team, Product Owner and organization. The class then teaches students about related practices and skills to enable them to have the right types of conversations and how to apply them to become better Scrum Masters.

What you will learn

Over the 2 days, students will learn about areas critical to growing as a successful Scrum Master such as how the principles and values of Scrum help guide Scrum Masters in the decisions they make and how the Scrum Master can help change the environment of Scrum Teams, creating an environment for agility to thrive. The Scrum Master role is complex and often, a Scrum Master must be able to apply different stances in order to be effective, such as:

  • The Scrum Master as a Teacher
  • The Scrum Master as a Coach & Mentor
  • The Scrum Master as a Facilitator
  • The Scrum Master as a Change Agent

As a Scrum Master, being able to identify, and effectively apply, which stance would benefit your team the most depending on the situation or circumstance could prove to be the key to the success of your team.

As a Scrum Master, part of your role is to help management and other stakeholders across your organization to understand the benefits of Scrum and Agile. Therefore, it is imperative that you have the information and background that is needed to gain credibility in order to be an effective change agent. Throughout the class, your PST will provide stories, exercises, facilitation techniques (such as “Liberating Structures”), resources and more.

There will also be time in class for the Professional Scrum Trainer (PST) to provide coaching on challenges that you and your classmates may be experiencing today or may in the future.

Professional Scrum Facilitation Skills™

Professional Scrum Facilitation Skills logo

In this one-day* skills-building course, participants will learn how to become better facilitators to improve interactions with their Scrum Teams, stakeholders and customers. They will focus on how to adopt facilitation as a stance and enable the Scrum Values. Students will address a series of common Scrum-related scenarios by applying several facilitation techniques that they can add to their collection of agile practices. They will create and leave with their own facilitation “plan” to improve their next team discussion or Scrum event.

* When offered in-person, this course is generally delivered in one day. When offered as a Live Virtual Class, the course may be broken up into more, shorter days.

A Professional Scrum training course created by Ken Schwaber and Scrum.org

Professional Scrum Facilitation Skills™ is an interactive course designed to help Scrum practitioners develop a facilitator’s mindset, proficiency in facilitation skills, and learn when and how to select effective techniques for various circumstances. Strong facilitation skills enable better problem-solving, more effective Scrum events and greater team alignment, all leading to better outcomes.

A key tenet of Scrum is to put problem-solving and decision-making in the hands of the Scrum Team. The Scrum Framework creates venues for this to happen and the Scrum Values help create an environment in which each Scrum Team member’s voice can be heard. However, team interactions don’t always go well. Sometimes team members lose sight of goals, don’t fully engage and/or can’t reach agreement. Effective facilitation can guide the team toward their desired outcomes.

Course Learning Objectives

  • Develop facilitation skills and a facilitator’s mindset
  • Learn the facilitation principles that experienced facilitators fall back on when interactions are difficult
  • Understand the roles that facilitation principles and the Scrum Values play in enhancing healthy collaboration in Scrum Teams
  • Explore how facilitation can address challenging scenarios most Scrum Teams encounter
  • Apply facilitation skills and techniques to improve the Scrum events and other interactions
  • Understand how to encourage diverse perspectives, while bringing the team together to reach decisions
  • Experience the elements of group dynamics and how they influence the decision-making process
  • Leave class with a toolbox of facilitation techniques and understand how to apply them in different circumstances

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for:

  • Scrum Masters and any Scrum Team member interested in learning how to use facilitation to enhance their team’s success
  • Scrum Coaches, Agile Coaches and Consultants

This course is not suitable for professionals with little Scrum knowledge or experience.

Professional Scrum Certification

All participants completing the Professional Scrum Facilitation Skills course will receive a password to attempt the Professional Scrum Facilitation Skills assessment. PSFS class participants who attempt the PSFS assessment within 14 days of the class and do not score at least 85% will be granted a 2nd attempt at no additional cost.

Each course explores real-world challenges to help students apply what they learn in their roles once back at work.

On their path to becoming a PST, they must have several years of Scrum experience. Once PST candidates apply, they then go through an extensive process that includes: interviews, validation of knowledge, training, peer reviews and more.

PSTs bring their own style and experiences with a consistent delivery of Scrum.org training around the world, so you know each course we teach is aligned with Professional Scrum, and all of your teammates are learning from the same course materials.

Professional Scrum™ with User Experience

User Experience

Professional Scrum™ with User Experience (PSU) is a hands-on, activity-based course where students experience how Scrum and User Experience (UX) align and integrate to create cross-functional teams that connect more closely with end users and customers, ultimately delivering more value and improving outcomes. By working together in a dual-track agile process, members of the Scrum Team can work more effectively to balance discovery work and delivery work.

The course also includes a free attempt at the globally recognized Professional Scrum with User Experience I certification assessment (PSU I).

What you will learn

In this two-day class, students will leverage an ongoing case study as a way of applying techniques learned throughout the class and preparing to take what they learn back to their workplace.  This course is designed for Product Owners and Scrum Masters to enable them to better incorporate design, research, and learning into their Scrum process.

Lean UX techniques focus the team toward customer-centric design and discovery. Scrum focuses the team toward rapid delivery and customer feedback. By bringing together Lean UX and Scrum, teams learn how to drive the design together with delivery in short, iterative cycles to assess what works best for the business and the user.

Leveraging Lean UX techniques, the course takes core design and research activities, illustrating how they come together with development and delivery. Attendees explore how these activities fit into a dual-track agile process (Design and Development) where cross-functional teams can work together to explore, experiment and deliver value-based outcomes.

This course was created together with Jeff Gothelf and Joshua Seiden, the authors of the book Lean UX, leveraging their expertise and knowledge. The goal of working together is to help students learn the truth about many of the myths that exist when it comes to bringing together design and development activities and how to overcome the challenges that come with this integrated team approach.

Course Learning objectives

  • Understand how cross-functional Scrum Teams can include UX specialists
  • Learn to account for, manage, prioritize, and include UX work in the Product Backlog
  • Explore how to balance discovery and delivery within a Scrum Team
  • Know how Scrum Teams create customer feedback loops within a Sprint
  • Ensure customer insight is included in Scrum events and decision-making
  • Communicate the Definition of “Done” in a world of continuous learning

Course Topics

  • Scrum with UX enhances continuous learning
  • Framing work as problems to solve
  • Outcomes over outputs
  • Managing UX work in Scrum
  • Focus on users
  • Experimentation

Who should attend

  • Scrum Masters and Product Owners will learn how to integrate the UX specialty with what they already know about the power of self-organizing cross-functional teams. This will enable them to help Developers to learn about the customer, plan learning/discovery/design work, and still deliver a “Done” increment each Sprint.
  • In addition, Scrum Masters will learn how to incorporate product discovery techniques into Sprints and how to balance the product discovery work with the product delivery work while Product Owners will learn product discovery techniques that User Experience Designers use to better understand the needs of the user.
  • UX Professionals struggling to integrate on a Scrum Team will learn how to work more effectively inside Scrum, managing work in Sprints and visualizing it in the Product Backlog.
  • People who have learned about Lean UX and want to learn how to integrate those concepts into Professional Scrum working together in a unified Scrum Team.

What’s included

  • Expert tuition from Scrum.org Professional Scrum Trainers with years of real-world experience
  • 2 attempts at the Scrum.org PSU I Assessment
  • Free pre and post-course coaching to support continued learning toward the assessments
  • Scrum.org courseware and further useful resources and links
  • Once obtained, certifications never expire

Scaled Professional Scrum (Nexus)

Scaled Professional Scrum™ logo

Scaled Professional Scrum (SPS) with Nexus is a 2-day course designed for anyone involved in building products across multiple teams to learn how they can scale product delivery with Scrum.  In this workshop, students use a hands-on case study to learn about the Nexus framework and over 50 practices to reduce dependencies at scale.

“I’ve spent the last two years developing a two-day workshop about scaling Scrum from one to many teams on large projects. I worked with people who have actually constructed the frameworks and practices that made large projects and product initiatives work. Our smallest project experience was 3 teams, average 25 teams, and largest was 80 teams.

We have developed a workshop in which participants learn how to scale a project based on Scrum teams. This is not a philosophical methodology, like SAFe, but a nuts and bolts set of detailed tools and practices for your use. These practices are appended to the basic Scrum framework to create a process you can use to scale your next or current project.

We abstracted a framework for this scaling which we named Nexus. A Nexus is 3-9 Scrum teams that are working on a single Product Backlog to build an integrated increment that meets a goal. A Nexus+ is more than one Nexus interoperating to build a large product, usually integrated through a product family framework, api, or similar integrating technology.

We developed or reformulated 30+ practices, which cause the Nexus to operate predictably. During the workshop, you work in teams to apply the practices on a case study. Come to this workshop if you have a project or initiative that you need to successfully scale, or one that is in trouble. We will help you through teaching, exercises, and coaching.

The audience is systems engineers, development managers, lead developers … the people who will make this happen and have strong familiarity with modern development and Scrum. And for those that will manage the project and need to know when to step on the throttle, and when to brake.

Those of you who have invested and attempted commercial scaling methodologies such as SAFe will find this aimed at the organizing and doing of scaled development. It may well fill a gap that you have noticed when you get to setting up and running your projects, programs and releases.”

Comment by Ken Schwaber – co-creator of Scrum
